Universal Stenciling & Marking Systems has been a leader in the marking and coding industry for over 100 years. Although we primarily manufacture contact coding systems, we acknowledge that ink jet systems are invaluable in certain applications. Printing on very small lightweight cartons, consecutive numbering and time coding are ideal applications for ink jet printing systems.

Historically, ink jet printing has commanded a large capital investment and required a large maintenance budget. The Evolution Ink Jet printing systems are very economically priced and feature HP disposable print head technology. A new print head with every ink cartridge keeps the system running like new without costly field service.

The basic Evolution I systems start at $895.00 complete and can be expanded as necessary with optional software packages.

The basic Evolution I System is capable of printing at speeds up to 200 feet per minute at a print resolution of 300 dpi. It will print one line of 1/2" characters or two lines of 7/32" characters up to a 24 character maximum message length per line. The Evolution I System features programmable line speed, print direction, print delay, inter-character spacing, inverted printing and multiple language prompts.

Software options can be added to provide the use of additional fonts, time and date coding, shift coding, sequential numbering, expanded message length up to 48 characters per line, message storage, password protection, date offset, product counter and graphics printing.

The Evolution II System is also capable of printing up to 200 feet per minute at a print resolution of 300 dpi and it comes equipped with an Arial font style in four character heights, 1/2", 7/32", 1/8" & 3/32". Print a one line message in 1/2" characters, two lines in 7/32", three lines in 1/8" and four lines in 3/32" high characters. It also features all five software packages which includes the logo download package and eight built in barcode symbologies.

The Evolution II System features programmable line speed, print direction, print delay, inter-character spacing, inverted printing and multiple language prompts.Additional standard features include auto message repeat, password protection, variable time formats, variable date formats, sequential numbering, shift coding, date offset and product counter. Direct keyboard entry of 8 Barcode symbologies including, I 2 of 5, Code 39, UPC-A, UPC-E, 128B, 128C, EAN8 and EAN13.

The ink cartridges used in the Evolution printer are genuine Hewlett Packard cartridges. The ink used in them, however, is specially formulated and delivers a darker black print and much longer de-cap time. This means a better looking print with less maintenance than the standard inks. The use of a darker ink allowed the reduction in droplet size, while achieving a darker print at the same 300dpi resolution. Competitive printers using the HP ink would have to print at a resolution of 600dpi to meet the optical density of the ink used in Evolution cartridges.

Inks for Porous Surfaces

Evolution 4500 Inks are formulated for printing on porous surfaces such as corrugated cartons, plain paper labels and other absorbent surfaced materials. The 4500 Inks are available in Black, Red, Green, Blue, Cyan and Yellow.

Inks for Non-Porous Surfaces

Evolution 4700 Ink is a fast drying, alcohol base ink formulated for use on non-porous surfaces such as plastic bottles, films, foils and metals. The 4700 Ink is currently available in Black only.
